28th October 2005
Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon John Prescott visits St Paul's young people and elders to consult on idea for commemorating 200 years since the outlawing of slave trading in the British empire.

4th December 2005
Community Activists gather in the Malcolm X Centre, Bristol to discuss
ideas and proposals.

January 2006
A meeting of the regional Consortium of Black Groups (COBG) meet to discuss the proposals and agree to take a lead in co-ordination and delivery of activities for 2007.

Public Meeting held to discuss proposals and the COBG proposal to lead the activities.
